About this blog!

Any in-depth discussion on children’s literature eventually gets to the question of “what IS children’s literature?” Is it books written for children, by children, read by children, or prescribed for children?

This blog puts books from all of these types of children’s lit in conversation with one another, and includes books that could fall into the categories of

  • children’s literature,
  • early reader books,
  • Young Adult literature (YA),
  • picture books,
  • chapter books,
  • classics,
  • and coloring books and other non-traditional forms of books and literary ephemera.

There are also lots and lots of posts that aren’t about a specific book, but do relate to these types of books, like quotes from famous children’s/young adult authors, links to articles about the genre, and links to new graduate programs in children’s/YA literature.

So basically, this blog revolves around literature that either has a lot of pictures, or that have a lot of chapters (but still are mostly for the pre-voting crowd), and hence, the title.

Also, adult themes - again, note the url title.

In case you’re wondering, my current favorite picture book is Brie Spangler’s Peg Leg Peke, and my all-time favorite chapter book is Harriet the Spy!
