Favorite YA books of 2011
iheartyabooks:
This is of course a personal list subjective to my tastes, but here is a list of my fave books from this year:
Where She Went by Gayle Forman - This book devastated me. It’s a story of lost love reclaimed.
Across the Universe by Beth Revis - Space opera Sci-Fi.
The Last Little Blue Envelope by Maureen Johnson - So much freaking fun.
Beauty Queens by Libba Bray - Think of Lord...

What The World Needs Now: A New Princess Marketed... →
Jezebel pretty much hits the nail on the head:
But let’s face it, little girls do not need more pink, princessy shit. They’re inundated as it is. (In Sofia’s defense, her dress seems to be a periwinkle blue.) Will kids love Princess Sofia? Absolutely. But while she teaches lessons about sharing, doesn’t she also teach about institutionalized gender norms? Her dresses and...

“Almost Perfect” wins 2011 Stonewall Children’s... →
So this was from Jan 10 of last year. Anyone have guesses for what will win this year?
By the way, the above-mentioned book sounds marvelous -

Iran Book News Agency | "Children's oral history"... →
Not the best-looking website, but a very interesting point: to my knowledge, most oral-history-collecting efforts are done amongst seniors. It would be interesting to collect oral histories from children, since it’s so hard to remember your earliest memories…
Anyway, that thought was about the West. This is an interesting look at the way Iran thinks about children’s literature.

Dave Astor: Reading Iconic Novels Later in Life:... →
It’s the Huffington Post, buuut it’s still a solid meditation on how time, age, memory, and expectation can affect the experience of re-reading the book.
Interesting - at the end of the blog, he encourages others to share their experiences in re-reading old favorites… and it looks like he’s responded to pretty much everyone’s comments!

I was going to just start posting and be all “what? I never left! I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
But then I saw that I didn’t lose a SINGLE follower in this hectic no-tumblr-because-i’m-too-busy-starting-a-new-job phase, and I felt so touched, and I just had to say - thanks!
the posting resumes… now.
